I lived in Rome throughout the next century. That was long, long ago At the moment, Rome was ruled by an emperor named Claudius. I didn't like Emperor Claudius, and I was not the only one Plenty of people shared my feelings. Claudius wanted to have a huge army. H-e expected men to offer to join. Lots of men only didn't need to fight in wars. They did not wish to leave their wives and families. As you may have guessed, very few men signed up. This made Claudius mad. So what happened? He had a ridiculous idea. H-e thought when men were not married, they'd not mind joining the military. Therefore Claudius do not allow any longer marriages. Visit [http://www.dipity.com/linkemperordywlw Abrahamsen Vaughan] to check up how to see this hypothesis. Browse here at the link [http://www.projectwedding.com/blog_entries/217982 buy here] to compare the reason for this hypothesis. Young adults thought his new law was inappropriate. I thought it was preposterous I undoubtedly wasn't planning to support that law Did I mention that I was a priest? One of my favourite actions was to marry couples. Even with Emperor Claudius passed his law, I maintained performing marriage ceremonies -- privately, of course. It was really very exciting. Imagine a small candle-lit room with just the bride and groom and myself. We would sound what of the ceremony, hearing whilst for the actions of soldiers. One night, we did hear footsteps. It was frightening Thank goodness the pair I was marrying escaped over time. I was found. (Not exactly as light on my legs as I used to be, I guess.) I was thrown in prison and told that my punishment was death. I tried to keep happy. And have you any idea what? Wonderful things happened. Many young people found the jail to see me. They threw flowers and notes up-to my window. They wanted me to understand that they, too, believed in-love. One of these young adults was the daughter of the prison guard. Her father allowed her to visit me in the cell. Sometimes we'd sit and talk all night. She helped me to keep my spirits up. She decided that used to do the best thing by ignoring the Emperor and going forward with the key unions. On the morning I was to die, I left my friend a little notice thanking her for her friendship and devotion. I signed it, 'Love from your Valentine.' In my opinion that note started the custom of exchanging love messages on Valentine's Day. It was published o-n the day I died, February 14, 269 A.D. Now, every year on this day, people remember. But most of all, they think about love and friendship. And when they consider Emperor Claudius, they remember how he tried to stand in the way of love, and they laugh -- because they realize that love can't be beaten.
