It was a normal trip to the TELEVISION station, I was the sales supervisor, and also in charge of writing, shooting, and editing some of the stations TV commercials. There is always plenty to do at the small non-profit station in southern New Mexico. It was initially that I had worked at a television station, particularly a Christian programming station, having spent most of my career in mainstream radio up to that point. I still remember the day that I first went into that station with my resume in hand, handed it throughout the table to the station supervisor, saying, I am Dianne James, listed here is my resume, and Id want to meet your needs. He looked over the resume and we had a great talk. At the conclusion of this talk, he explained, Well, you will have to complete income along with other work... I had seen that before. I had done that before, not television, but I knew that if I could sell watermelons, carrots, and radio airtime, I could sell television. Also, there clearly was a more crucial function to the job. I did so not know it then, but it was a way to help people, and to produce a huge difference. The-money was not great, because it was a non-profit, but it was also my first television job. The only other TELEVISION station Id actually even visited was, as a child, on my birthday when I was allowed to ring the bell on the Admiral Foghorn Show, a kind of West Texas version of Captain Kangaroo, in Odessa Texas. I did not mention Admiral Foghorn. Id be one of three salesmen, and would head out with the manager to satisfy my given customers, all through those first days on the job. Well, in an ideal world, that will have happened. The manager was an incredibly busy man. He did not have time to hold someones hand and present them to everybody else. Therefore, one day while waiting for him to get off-the phone, I do not wait any further. I left and began making cold calls. Weeks passed until one day while going into the control room, I tripped and fell on the small little step-down into the room. I did perhaps not know a humans foot could bend that far backwards. I could not go. Obviously, I was on crutches for a couple weeks, and carrying a quick scenario, making sales calls, and at that time itd snowed. Not a nice experience. After an especially slow sales month, I was thinking that maybe this job wasnt designed for me, after all. My supervisor called me to the office one day and said he wanted me to be the sales manager. He had always been the sales manager, and, to my understanding, so I stayed, no-one else had ever held that position except him. The staying turned out to be a learning experience. It had been inside my tenure because the sales manager a woman walked in to the station, hopeless and desperate. I asked her if I could help her, and she looked somewhat bewildered. She said, with a minor Spanish accent, I dont know, I only came in here, I dont know why. My daughter got killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Cruces, and I just got out of court. I found pain in her eyes. Enormous pain. Learn more on the affiliated link - Click here Differentiate or Die - 3 Keys to Eclipse Your Competition · Storify. She was o-n the verge of tears, as she relayed the story of how her child just happened to be in the wrong place in the wrong time, when a bullet from a shooting took his life. I had young ones of my own, and at that time something with-in me felt a few of her pain. Well, there was no basis for her to be at the TV station, she did not even know it was a television station; she said shed just wandered in, from the court house across the road. I discovered the her graying hair, braces o-n her legs and a look in her eyes that made me feel like she thought I could do some thing about all this. I told her, Wait, Ill be right back. I looked to the book of Job, and brought her a Bible from-the company. This has helped me often in my life, and I think it will help in the event that you read this, I informed her. She said ok, took the Bible, and sat down in the lobby, and started to study. I told her I had be back a little bit. I left the area to provide her time and energy to read it. When I returned, she was gone. The Bible lay on the sofa, and I wondered if she had also read the passage. I felt bad, that perhaps I should have gone back-to check into her faster, but she was gone and nothing could possibly be done. Time passed, and the CBS Sunday Morning personnel had arrived at Alamogordo to take an unique about gang violence with Yahooskin and Howdy Fowler as a portion of it, with their cross-country camel trip, increasing understanding of gang violence. The lady whod wandered into the station days before was certainly on my head. I eventually discovered who she was and called her in Las Cruces, to see how she was doing, she had been so down, so depressed about her daughter, Id wondered what had happened to her. She explained, Yes, I remember you. At the conclusion of-the conversation she said, Many thanks. You saved my life. She had walked in the day, I didnt know very well what that person might do. I realized she was in pain, and very depressed. All I could do was communicate with her and she to me, and try to give some hope to her. I then found out that regardless of what our walk or position in life, we can help people on the way. Theres no necessity to be a saint to simply help some one, both. Great point, because I was not. All I knew is that she was so troubled, she may commit suicide. Suicide is not the solution, because what youre going through at the moment might be the knowledge that someone needs in the future to keep them from committing suicide, or stopping o-n life- a source of future joy for you, having the ability to truly help someone. Theres great joy in this life for you, if you give it sufficient time to find you. It is these tumultuous times, we that are prepared by these trials of life, for what weve to perform later on. Unfortunately, too many just take their own lives, unsure that they are able to help somebody else using their perception of having been in that pain, too. They do not realize that a person can do-anything, one hour at a time. Each day at a time. What it takes is speaking about it- even though it is to a stranger. Perhaps even a pastor. Many people try taking anti-depressants to cope with their problems, but Ive found that the fastest and best way to experience the hardest conditions is head-on, right through the midst of it. Each time a person is feeling that much pain, the perspective where theyre considering the situation is manipulated by that pain. For this reason, this indicates impossible. It really helps you to vent to another person who will listen. Find because tomorrow is a new day, one which can, even when it is a stranger. Sunlight will rise, the birds will sing, and youll survive this. Youll be stronger for having survived this, and you will then be in an unique position to help somebody else survive that critical moment when life is in the balance. It will take many of us a very long time to find what that is, but there is an intention. You must remain alive to learn what it is. Remember, also, that there are millions of people nowadays who feel like theyve no-one who loves them. There is love. Just keep living and striving for the pleasure that you will find. Keep understanding and youll keep increasing. And do not forget, you can do anything, an hour or even a day at a time. You had be surprised to know exactly how many individuals who are walking around pleased today have, one or more times, considered killing themselves. That moment now could be but a little part of your great journey of life ahead. H-e can truly use you, too, In the event the Lord can use a plain old salesman like me to help some-one. Some body may need your love, sometime. If youre alive you can only love them. I discovered What Is Iridology? Events Eventbrite by searching the Sydney Sun-Times.
